In the remote hills of western Nepal, in the municipality of Tilagufa in Kalikot district, the Aide internationale de la Croix-Rouge luxembourgeoise is working hand in hand with the Nepal Red Cross Society to support communities facing both chronic vulnerability and the impacts of recurring natural disasters.

Together with local partners and residents, we are improving access to safe and reliable drinking water by developing and rehabilitating water supply networks. At the same time, we are investing in education and WASH by supporting the construction and rehabilitation of schools, sanitation facilities, and toilets in both schools and health posts – creating safer, more dignified environments for learning and care.

Beyond basic services, we support livelihoods by helping communities recover and strengthen their means of income, particularly after disasters. This includes the rehabilitation of irrigation canals, which are vital for agriculture and food security in the region.

We also work to reduce disaster risks by strengthening the capacities of local governments and at-risk communities to assess hazards, prepare for emergencies, and respond effectively. Community-led recovery initiatives are at the heart of this approach, including the construction of protective infrastructure such as gabion walls and retaining walls to mitigate the impact of floods and landslides.

In parallel, we are reinforcing the organizational capacities of the Nepal Red Cross Society to ensure it can deliver inclusive, efficient, and effective humanitarian services to those who need them most.

Through these combined efforts, the Aide internationale de la Croix-Rouge luxembourgeoise and the Nepal Red Cross Society are contributing to stronger, more resilient communities in Tilagufa – where people are better equipped not only to meet their daily needs, but also to face further challenges with confidence and dignity.
